A True Taste of Cornwall at Sixty Bistro

Team Daniel and Lisa from Sixty Bistro and the Pentire Hotel in Newquay, recently visited a couple of our local Cornish Vineyards. We love to support our local Cornish suppliers, which is why we took the time to say hello and take a look around. We've detailed a few highlights and information below following our visit. If you're staying with us, exploring Cornwall or dining at Sixty Bistro, we definitely recommend a day-trip out to the Vineyards or trying a bottle of delicious Cornish wine from our wine menu.

Knightor Winery, Trethurgy, Nr St. Austell

First recorded in 1305, the settlement named as Knightor was first spelt Creghtyer, which is Cornish for ‘wrinkled land’. By 1842, St Austell's tithe map documents the hamlet as 'Knightor'.
Fast forward to present day, Knightor Winery offers a limited production of premium quality wines from English vineyards and their own Cornish vines at Portscatho and Seaton. The style of wines produced is distictively elegant & light in style. Low grape yields, a result of the marginal Cornish climate, maximises true fruit taste and limits their range to still and sparkling rose and still and sparkling white wines. A superb match for the abundance of Cornish seafood on our doorstep or perfect as an aperitif, the range and versatility of Knightor wines is renowned. The sommelier for 2 star Michelin Chef Nathan Outlaw said "Their Trevannion wine is completely different in style and has an incredible depth of flavour, enough to stand up to curry".

Try a bottle of 'Madeleine Angevine' from Knightor when you dine at Sixty Bistro. This wine is elegant, crisp and immensely quaffable. Reminiscent of a Sauvignon Blanc, with a delicate floral and citrus character, it's simply delicious. Find out more about Knightor Winery

Polgoon Vineyard & Orchard, Penzance

Formerly a run-down flower farm, transformed and planted with vines to create an award-wining Cornish vineyard. In 2006, the first wine harvest created the first Polgoon rosé, awarded the Waitrose trophy for “Best Still Rosé in the UK”. With the addition of a range of delicious ciders (made by a traditional method used by french winemakers to make their sparkling wines) the full range of spakling and still wines, ciders and fruit juices are sold across the country and in their taste of the west Gold medal winning shop. A great day-trip destination and dog-friendly too. Dogs on leads are permitted around the Vineyard, but not in the shop or winery (doggy bowls & fresh water is available outside the shop with somewhere to tie up).
