We know what you’re thinking. When it comes to the best wine producers in the world, it’s easy to conjure up thoughts of France, Italy, Argentina, Australia and more. But did you know that we have some incredible wine producers right here on our doorstep in Cornwall?

Part of a new wave of wine producers taking the world by storm, Cornwall’s vineyards are firmly placing themselves on the global map. Competing on an international level, the wines produced here are recognised far and wide for their quality. In fact, one Cornish sparkling wine has even trumped Bollinger and Roederer, winning first place at the World Sparkling Wine Championships. Impressive.

So where are these dreamy vineyards hidden amongst the county? Ready to uncork some secret (and not-so secret) gems, we’ve put together a list of some of the best Cornwall vineyards to visit this summer…

Camel Valley Vineyard

One of the largest vineyards in the South West, Camel Valley was established in 1989 and has since gained international attention. And we can see why. Nestled in the Camel Valley in North Cornwall, the vineyard’s sun-drenched slopes are the perfect grounds for growing vines – making the most of the unique terroir to nurture grapes like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Bacchus.

Famed for their still and sparkling white wines, the team at this Cornwall vineyard are so skilled at what they do that they have even won gold in the World Sparkling Wine Championships in Verona for the Best International Traditional Method Sparkling Wine.

Polgoon Vineyard

Wend your way to West Cornwall and you’ll find Polgoon Vineyard. Located in Penzance, this fantastic, family-run Cornwall vineyard and orchard is known across the South West for their delicious, ciders and juices – all of which are produced onsite.

Thanks to a commitment to organic, sustainable practices, what makes Polgoon’s artisan creations even more special is that they’re all certified vegan, meaning that everyone can look forward to sampling them.

If you’ve never been before, take part in a guided or self-guided vineyard tour, soaking up the gorgeous Cornwall vineyard setting as you go. Once you’re ready to refuel, you can round off your trip with a visit to Polgoons’s Vine House Kitchen, where wine, pizza and an array of sides are served alfresco. For added fun, you can also keep an eye on their line-up of events with everything from markets to paella nights to rum tastings.

Knightor Winery

One of the best Cornwall vineyards to visit this summer has to be Knightor Winery. The trendy cousin of the wine world, Knightor has loads to offer vino fans, including a winery in St Austell and a vineyard, restaurant and bar in Portscatho. Known for their fun-filled feast nights, live music and events, they serve up all sorts of opportunities for you to try their artisan wines and vermouths and lap up the atmosphere. That said, if quieter vibes are more your thing, then you can simply turn up for guided vineyard tours (in July and August) in Portscatho and wine tasting sessions (throughout summer) in St Austell too. With a range of red, white and rosé wines to choose from, there’ll be plenty to pique your interest.

Trevibban Mill Vineyard

Tucked in the heart of rolling Cornish countryside just 15 miles from us here at Pentire, Trevibban Mill is one of the county’s top vineyards. With a strong focus on sustainability, this certified organic Cornwall vineyard is set within a working farm and produces a seriously tasty range of award-winning wines. And, just in case that wasn’t temptation enough, they also produce their own ciders, too. Naturally, the best way to get to know the wines here is to try them for yourself (their award-winning Pinot Noir Sparkling Rosé and ‘Constantine’ still Chardonnay wines are particular favourites). Sign up for guided tours where you can learn all about their artisan winemaking process and savour the scenic setting, before rewarding yourself with a bite to eat. Serving a range of mouth-watering sharing boards on their beautiful restaurant balcony, views and vinos are top of the menu here.

Polmassick Vineyard

With its beaming sunshine and temperate climes, Cornwall lends itself really well to growing varieties of flavourful white grapes – something that the family-run Polmassick Vineyard near St Austell know lots about. Proudly bearing the title of Cornwall’s oldest vineyard, Polmassick’s team of expert winemakers combine their years of experience with the county’s rich soils to produce some of the finest white wines in the South West and beyond. When the weather allows, they even create rosé and red wines too. For the best experience, take a trip to the vineyard in summer.
