As a peninsula county, it's all about the beaches in Cornwall. With literally hundreds of Cornish beaches, you'll be sure to find a favourite to enjoy your perfect beach day. At the Pentire, we've got a few nearby, with many of our rooms offering breathtaking coastal views, including over Fistral Beach.
We've ten sandy beaches surrounding Newquay, stretching from Watergate Bay to the north down to our two neighbouring strands: Fistral and Crantock. All ten beaches can be surfed but are also suitable for children and families. The Pentire Hotel is dog friendly, and we have some of the best pooch-welcoming beaches in Cornwall on our doorstep too.

Beaches in Newquay
Fistral Beach
Perfect for surfers, you'll find some of the best waves in Europe at this popular beach. Many of our rooms enjoy a view across Fistral, and it's less than a ten-minute stroll away, so if you're after sun, sea and sand then the Pentire is an excellent location to base yourself. You can check out the surf and the view with our beach webcam. Fistral is lifeguard patrolled May-Sept.

Crantock Beach
The view over the beach from the Pentire Headland is exceptional and is just a short walk from The Pentire Hotel. Crantock offers golden sands edged by high dunes, with the West Pentire headland providing a beautiful backdrop. At low tide it's vast, perfect for dog-walkers or a family day out. To access Crantock from the Pentire, take a short walk to the Fern Pit Cafe & Ferry, and take the ferry (runs May-Sept) for the 200yd trip across the Gannel river to Crantock. There is a modest fee for the ferry, or there is also a water footbridge at the same site, which is accessible for approximately three hours each side of low water. Alternatively, there is a National Trust Car Park which is further up the Gannel Estuary. Crantock is lifeguard patrolled May-Sept.

Towan Beach
Towan beach is instantly recognisable by its famous island, which is joined to the cliff by a suspension bridge. It is the most central beach in Newquay, close to the centre of town and popular with families. Facilities include a café and public toilets. Dogs are allowed all year round, and the beach is lifeguard patrolled May-Sept.

Great Western Beach
Great Western is another central beach, backed by high cliffs with several coves that offer some shelter and space to escape the crowds. At low tide, the beach joins with Towan and Tolcarne to create a vast sandy stretch, and at high tide, the beach is almost entirely covered. You can access Great Western via quite a steep path that runs alongside the Great Western Hotel. Dogs are allowed all year round, and the beach is lifeguard patrolled May-Sept.
