Many people make the Pentire Hotel their base for a walking holiday – and it's no wonder: we're right on the legendary South West Coast Path, rated as one of the top walks to be found anywhere in the world by Lonely Planet and voted Britain's best walking route by the readers of Walk magazine.

England's longest waymarked long-distance footpath (and one of the longest in the UK), it stretches for 630 miles from Minehead, to our north in Somerset, right the way round to Poole Harbour in Dorset on England's south coast. Since it rises and falls with every river mouth, it's a challenging trail, with the total height climbed calculated to be 114,931ft, or 35,031m – that's almost four times the height of Everest!

But don't be put off – there are sections that are perfectly accessible for those less able but who want to get out and enjoy the views the path has to offer and inhale some of that fresh sea air deep into their lungs. There are, of course, also plenty of walks inland from the coast path that are well worth checking out. Why not read our article Walks we Recommend to our Guests...
